About the Author
Erik has worked at Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon for over two decades, in a variety of positions involving software, design, simulation, and formal verification. Currently he works in the Design Technology and Solutions division, where he supports formal verification usage for Intel teams worldwide. In his spare time he hosts the “Math Mutation” podcast, and serves as an elected director on the Hillsboro school board.

Tom recently joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty at Portland State University and directs a graduate track in Design Verification and Validation. Previously, he was at Intel Corporation for 17 years in Hillsboro, Oregon, where he managed Intel's largest pre-silicon validation formal verification team develop and apply FPV techniques on multiple generations of microprocessor designs. Tom received a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis.

Kiran has been working at intel India for past 11 years and has worked in various areas of the chip design cycle which includes RTL design, structural design, circuit design, simulation and various levels of verification including formal verification. Currently he leads the formal verification efforts for the graphics design in Visual Platform Group and supports formal verification at intel india site.

Comprehensive Formal Methodology Based on Intel's 20 Year Deployment Experience

This book is targeted at RTL designers who want to become proficient with formal verification. It presents a staged adoption methodology starting from early design bring-up, through formal bug-hunting, to formal sign-off. In addition to traditional property checking, it also covers selected formal "Apps" including standard protocol checking, unreachable coverage, connectivity checking, and CSR verification. There is a chapter on equivalence checking, including sequential equivalence, and a chapter on complexity management detail several advanced abstraction techniques. Though most of the focus is on practical applications, there is also a chapter giving a high level description of BDD and SAT algorithms.
The discussions and examples are tool and vendor independent so this is not a replacement for tool-specific training. Many techniques are illustrated with code examples and waveforms that are complex enough to illustrate the methodology but also simple enough to follow without too much effort. The discussion starts at the beginning, assuming only knowledge of RTL design and simulation, but it progresses to advanced techniques that would benefit even expert-level readers.
I have been teaching formal verification tools and techniques to industrial practitioners for many years and I believe this book is the first to focus on adoption by designers and to present such a comprehensive methodology. I will certainly be recommending it to my customers and colleagues.

A MUST HAVE BOOK!

The subtitle of this book, "Essential Toolkit for Modern VLSI Design", has definitely met its mark, and more! This is because the authors thoroughly expressed their practical knowledge of this complex, and misunderstood topic, in an easy to read presentation. I particularly appreciated many aspects of this book, including:
1. The maturity derived from extensive years of work experiences, with successes and pitfalls.
2. The organization and presentation of the subject matters, including the progression of knowledge being presented for easier absorption of the topics.
3. The practical tips derived from actual usage of formal verification and from real designs.
4. The various approaches, or angles of attack, in using formal verification when verifying different types of designs and situations.
5. The test case examples, and progression of solutions in achieving the end goals.
In summary, I strongly recommend this book to design and verification engineers who are contemplating, or are currently using formal verification; I certainly learned a lot from it!

About the Author

Reshad Feild is an author, a musician, and a spiritual teacher in the Mevlevi Dervish tradition. He is the founder of the Bashara Centre in England and the author of several books, including Breathing Alive, Footprints in the Sand, The Last Barrier, Steps to Freedom, and To Know We're Loved.

Mr. Feild's spiritual practices explained from earlier books

Reshad Feild continues his story of his spiritual journey through Sufism as told in his earlier books, "The Infinite Way" and "The Last Barrier." However, this is not a book writen in the same style as the previous two books mentioned. This is a "How to" book about the spiritual practices mentioned in his earlier books.
In Here To Heal, Mr. Feild breaks down some of his specific spiritual practices that existed as elements in the earlier story line. He explains, in depth, the "7 breath" which he was taught as a form of practicing concious awareness during his friends death. He talks about not healing someone with out their "permission". He talks about the importance of keeping the home prepared for "The Guest" and he talks about a type of earth healing ritual (geomancy).
In his earth healing practice he performs a healing ritual for the earth by inserting large copper and iron rods - similar to accupunture needles, in various places where the earths energy has been left unbalanced. An example is when he descibes takeing his students to a location that has a "bad" feeling in the air. One student says she can smell blood and seemen. The air temperature is described as colder in this one area. After he inserts the rods in the right places, birds beging to flock to a nearby tree. The temperature warms. Life has been restored. Later they hear that a murder had taken place somewhere near the spot the found.
Here To Heal serves more as a manual on the healing styles of Mr. Feild than an easily read story. If you were drawn to his journey and would like to know more about his practises, this book is for you.

A bitter pill...

Kilbourne writes about the psychology of mass marketing, which is something she detests and refuses to let go of. Her remarks are often cloyingly accurate--that mass marketing turns people in addicts, disconnects people from genuine and authentic feeling, substitutes objects for people, turns people into objects, and values consumerism above community. Given that mass advertising is the water that we fishies swim in (nearly a zillion ads by the time we are ten years old), it's a pretty depressing and gives me a quasi-paranoid headache.
In contrast to another reviewer, however, I did not think Kilbourne was in the least bit funny. Angry--and she has enough to be angry about, every day, ranging from TV to magazines--but no, not funny.
Nevertheless, she writes very well and convincingly. This bitter pill gets 4*'s.

You'll never look at advertising the same way again

Jean Kilbourne has a truly rare gift for finding purpose in and explicating insight into the thousands of ads that bombard us on a daily basis. It is fascinating to watch her meticulous, brilliant, even-handed exploration into the world of advertising. Her cogent remarks on the psychology of advertising bring a rare glimpse into previously unchartered waters. Having been a long-time fan of her films, it was also a distinct pleasure to read about her own personal and professional development in the first chapter as it was affected by the products advertisers insist we need to be fulfilled. Fascinating and Frightening

Jean Kilbourne does an excellent job of taking you through the mindfield of advertising. I was shocked to learn that America is one of the few countries to allow advertising directed at kids and after reading this book, I know why it is outlawed in most places. Throughout this well developed and researched book, I found myself shocked and stunned -- and that's not easy to do to me.
Everyone should take a look at this book. The insidious nature of advertising is made apparent and if you think you aren't impacted by advertising then you truly should read this book. Fascinating and frightening.

I got pregnant in 2 months after reading this book

I was trying for a baby for 1 year without success. My friend recommended this book to me. I told myself that maybe it's time to stop trying if we still have no success after using tips from this book. I was really surprised that I got pregnant the 2nd month after I started using its tips. It's worth a try if you are still trying.

I LOVE this book!!

I love this book! My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over a year. I have PCOS and I've been using acupuncture and Chinese medicine for the last 4 months. I was curious what other information was out there. I feel like I have read every blog and website available. I really like Randine Lewis' The Infertility Cure, but like this book even more. It's so easy to read and understand. I laughed when I started to read the Chapter entitled "How to Get Pregnant: The Basics". I thought there was no way they could teach me something I didn't already know....I was wrong! I've only had this book for 6 days and I've already carved out a lot of time to read it...something I haven't done with other infertility books. I don't know if their methods work, but it's definitely a great read, especially for the price!!

Quite a Comprehensive Collection of Engravings

The Clip Art Book contains quite a collection of images expressing the broad range of the visual historical human experience. The illustrations are primarily comprised of woodcuts and engravings. This book contains about 5,000 images ranging from the fantastic to the aesthetically beautiful and pleasing to the eye. The books break down and categorize the illustrations into 16 categories of subject matter and interest. The vast array of images is representative of concepts and thought provoking invigorating atmosphere. This is an invaluable book if you are really looking for a collection of engravings (black & white) for clip art.

The Clip Art Book: a great resource.

I have found several opportunities to use some of the artwork within this book for various projects. But, even greater has been its use for idea production. As an illustrator myself, I have found the stylistic approaches to the many different illustrations within this book to be inspirational, and they have been invaluable in broadening my own pen and ink drawing and illustration perspective. Even if you are not an artist, or have any intention in utilizing this book as a professional resource, it is truly a work of art in and of itself, both creatively as well as historically. Its just great to look at.

Beautiful songs, but challenging

The songs in this books are truly beautiful. However, inasmuch as this is attributed to the King's Singers, the material in it tends to be challenging. Definitely not for the beginner or enthusiastic amateur choir. Would be great for trained high school or university singers who read music.

Wonderful, helpful, fascinating book

I am so happy to have found this book! I am using it to teach canons to my children's choir. The breadth of genre, the inclusion of both sacred and secular, the diversity of ability levels and voices necessary, and the clear presentation of the pieces make this a valuable research tool as well as a godsend for teachers.
