Great Book on the struggle of Reproductive Freedom!

Iris Lopez gracefully captures the scope of the reproductive struggle Puerto Rican women have faced and still face. Through nuanced ethnography , Lopez delineates the many movements that have demonized Puerto Rican women such as the Sterilization campaign of Puerto Rico. Also, Lopez divulges many studies that tear the health equality facade by showing systematic mistreatment towards minorities on part of the health system. Fact of the matter is, discrimination is very much at large, and is still facilitated by many agents such as the Health system, America's expansionist regime, and so forth. The book is well written and authoritative. It synthesis the most minuscule of facts, managing to properly account for the collective struggle of Puerto Rican women, thereby, lending further authenticity to the findings in the book. I highly recommend this read especially to those interested in learning how minorities are victimized and misrepresented every day. Oh and learn that true reproductive freedom means the ability "to choose from a series of safe, effective,convenient, and affordable methods of birth control".

This predictable look at the "unpredictable business" of television tells the tale of upstart networks the WB and UPN, whose eventual failures were both "symptom" and "byproduct" of "an industry in transition" amid "a broader business environment gone bananas." A former executive at the WB, Daniels recounts the 11-year history of the "netlet" and its main competitor, UPN, in exacting detail. Daniels and her co-writer Littleton (of Variety magazine) bring what gossip they have-noting, for instance, that Katie Holmes nearly passed on Dawson's Creek for the lead in her high school musical-but the majority of the writing is strictly business. Unfortunately, neither Daniels nor Littleton have the knack for developing characters; the majority of the large cast (listed helpfully up front) are introduced with lazy cliches (screenwriter Kevin Williamson "was all youthful exuberance that day, sporting a sweet grin, tousled sandy blonde hair and deep-blue eyes"), drawing life from behind-the-scenes discussion of deals, partnerships, creative development and ratings wars. This chronicle should appeal to future network executives, but fans will probably be happier watching Buffy reruns-or even Star Trek: Voyager.

Now I Understand Why These Networks Suddenly Appeared

I am a casual TV viewer and did not understand why the WB and UPD networks suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

I see that the FCC rules on the major networks being able to own the prime time schedule changed and the production studios got nervous and feared a loss of business of producing shows for CBS, NBC and ABC, so why not have your own network and create an outlet for the studios output.

I got a little bored with some of the stories about many executives as that did not interest me, but the main takeaway for me was that the WB was getting a lot of its successful programming from other studios ( Spelling, Fox, Disney) thus defeating the primary purpose for creating the networks.

Overall, it helped me understand the way the TV sausage is made.

Dutch Homeopath and medical doctor Tinus Smits has been studying, practicing and teaching homeopathy for more than 30 years, right until his death in 2010. He began as a lay homeopath before entering medical school at 31 years of age, finishing his medical training in 1986. He has run a successful practice in the Netherlands and has been teaching for more than 20 years in many different countries all over the world. He has studied with eminent homeopaths including Jacques Imberechts, Alex Jacques, George Vithoulkas and Alphons Geukens. Dr. Smits always believed that the therapeutic possibilities of homeopathy could be improved by careful observation and notation of the results of homeopathic treatment. From his own careful observations, he developed Inspring Homeopathy, a system for treating the universal layers present in all people, allowing him to heal deep disorders resistant to standard homeopathic treatment. Vaccinations, environmental insults, poor nutrition, and their cumulative impact on children and adults have always had his special attention. During the past three years, he formulated and developed an effective treatment to heal autistic children, the CEASE therapy, documented by the many cases he has dealt with in his practice. He has published several other books and articles on these subjects.

About the Author
Professor Senft's main research interests lie in the mathematical analysis of mechanisms and heat engines, with an emphasis on the Stirling engine. He has published over forty papers and several books in these areas. He currently teaches at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, but he has also been a visiting research professor at the University of Rome, the University of Washington Joint Center for Graduate Study, the University of Zagreb, and the University of Calgary. He has been a visiting fellow at the Australian National University Institute of Advanced Study, and a visiting scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. He has received research grants from the Charles A. Lindbergh, Fulbright, and the National Science Foundations, and is a consultant to the U.S. Department of Energy and NASA.

I really like Prof. Senft's work. This book is no exception. The mathematics he goes through have enormous implications, but are very simple to follow (if you take the time to fully understand his notation). Overall a great book.

I highly recommend those also -- not only `An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' but his oeuvre.

Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

This book is an absolute gem, and here is a wonderfully cheap edition, even allowing for conversion to non-USA currency. I like to go to sleep with a smile on my face, and this little tome was my bedtime reading for a while. Yes, I laughed my head off every night. Bierce's biting wit and skill with language are such a joy. His observations are as relevant now as when they were written, which was quite a long time ago. I particularly enjoyed his comments on religious and church matters. I have already given a copy to a friend who shares my love of language and wit. Mind you, I would not recommend it to anyone who had a sheltered upbringing or has a narrow view of the real world.
