It also offers a further example of how Roman imperial ideology may be employed in the study of the reception of Paul's letters. The thesis proposes that Paul's concept of new creation is an expression of his eschatologically infused soteriology which involves the individual, the community, and the cosmos, and which is inaugurated in the death and resurrection of Christ.

I found this book to be a thoughtful and thorough consideration of of Pauline soteriology in context of Paul's eschatology and the political, social environment in which he lived. The focus of this consideration is Paul's 'new creation' theology in connection with salvation, and how it has implications beyond personal redemption in connection with all of creation. Jackson has drawn together two important strands of Pauline theology in this book, and considered what influences might have contributed to how he expressed it. Furthermore, he considers how Paul's message might have been understood by his hearers and readers in light of an imperial Roman eschatology.

Kembhavi-Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune, India

Narlikar graduated from Banaras Hindu University, India. He then studied mathematics at Cambridge University, graduating with the highest honors and the Tyson Medal for Astronomy. He continued in Cambridge, obtaining a PhD and then the Sc.D. degree. He was a founder staff member of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy in Cambridge in 1966 and in 1988 set up and became director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune, India.
