Concise, clear, and engaging.

This book does an excellent job of explaining theories about strategic leadership and management and making practical suggestions that can be applied across a wide variety of fields. As a student, I found the book easy to follow, both because of the conciseness and the useful diagrams throughout the book. Recommended especially for business or poli-sci students who are tired of long-winded readings and want to get to the core elements of leadership and management theory.

Great Beginner’s Guide

Having purchased a couple beginner’s guides to accompany a new keyboard, this was by far the easiest to follow and understand – the others I found a bit daunting for a complete beginner like myself. Nice, clear photos and diagrams, a good pace as I worked through the book, and very clear explanations about all the functions of my keyboard and how to incorporate the various rhythms and chords as I played. Highly recommended.

A Dog's Journey Is An Emotional Journey Masterpiece!

When I reviewed W. Bruce Cameron's A Dog's Purpose I said that it is one of the top 3 or 4 books I've ever read in my over fifty years of being an avid reader -- and possibly my all-time favorite! So, just prior to starting A Dog's Journey, Cameron's sequel to A Dog's Purpose, I was concerned about being disappointed because I didn't see how it could come close to being as good.

Then, I read the book, which took me a while to finish since the water build-up in my eyes got heavier and heavier the closer I came to the end. Could that water build-up have been tears? I don't know what it was but all I know is that I wished my glasses had wipers attached to them.

My bottom line opinion of A Dog's Journey is that, as hard as it may seem to believe, it is even better than A Dog's Purpose! I can't recommend this book highly enough to all dog lovers or anyone who will allow themselves to feel all of the emotions associated with life (and death). Do yourself a favor and consider A Dog's Journey a MUST read. However, if you haven't already read A Dog's Purpose, I'd highly recommend you read it before A Dog's Journey in order to get the maximum enjoyment from the latter.

Just as in my review of A Dog's Purpose, I won't summarize the plot even a little bit because the potential reader will want to experience every aspect of this terrific book without any advance information of what you will experience as you read it. I think the following information from the jacket cover pertaining to the essence of A Dog's Journey should suffice. This is a charming and heartwarming story of hope, love and unending devotion. It asks the question: Do we take care of our pets, or do they take care of us? More than just another endearing dog tale, A Dog's Journey is the moving story of unwavering loyalty and a love that crosses all barriers.

The thought that sums up A Dog's Journey for me in one sentence is: Good golly Miss Molly, you are a true Buddy to the Max! While I know this thought may seem ambiguous now, I think you'll fully understand and agree with it once you have read A Dog's Journey.

Well, that's all I'm going to say about this very, very memorable book, which hopefully will be enough to motivate you to read it. I know you'll feel totally enriched with the emotional journey it will take you on. Be forewarned, however, that you'll need to have a box of tissues close by as you read it!

Now, just as I did when I finished A Dog's Purpose, I have to go hug my dog, Luigi, and tell him what a good boy he is and give him all the love he deserves.

"A Dog's Journey" takes you inside the dog's thoughts, hopes, and dreams.
As it says in this book, "My Cj. She taught me that it was a good thing to
love more than just my boy Ethan, opening my eyes to the fact that I'd
actually loved many people in my lives, that loving humans was my purpose."

That says it all to me.
Dogs are here to be loved and appreciated.
This book has us realize how special these creatures really are, no matter
what shape, size, or breed they come to us in.
I can recommend this book whole heartedly, just keep two boxes of
tissues next to you.

Amazing Book!!!

This book and the one before it (A Dog's Purpose) really helped me come to terms with losing my beloved dogs. I can't think of a better way to describe the love between a person and their dog than in this book. Dogs are amazing creatures, and I feel that this book really captures that. They love us unconditionally. For example, A Dog's Journey illustrates that you can close a door on a dog, but they will never close their heart on you. You belong to them; you are their purpose. This is a truly beautiful book. If you have ever loved and/or lost a dog, this is a must-read. I cried, I laughed. And I believe that's what makes it a good book.

Powerful material so you can rise to a higher level of success and fulfillment

This is an extraordinary book. Why? It's the combined effort of two highly intelligent men who truly want to help you take your life to a higher level of success and fulfillment. On page 11, co-author Henry Bono reveals: "A Motivational Imperative is a central, governing statement of intent for one's life. It brings into alignment the conscious and subconscious minds for the purpose of creating one's greatest possible fulfillment, one's destiny, one's ultimate concern. . . It is a well-designed, powerful, and focused statement of "motive" behind one's movement through life. Therefore, it influences and impacts every aspect of life, and magnetizes one towards his or her intended destiny."

Your Motivational Imperative can give you a new surge of power to make tremendous progress in life.

On page 54, Henry Bono suggests we focus on an empowering question: "Where is my inspired action?"

On page 69, co-author Dantalion Jones discusses the Motivational Imperative Construct. He uses a diagram as an illustration. He writes: "Each successive level going up controls all below it. So, Thoughts and Emotions control Actions and Behaviors. Beliefs control Thoughts and Emotions, Values control Beliefs and, at the top is Identity which controls all the things below it."

Jones goes on to help you get access to your subconscious mind and even helps you to dig deep with a process "Values Elicitation" (page 81).

On page 116, Jones leads you through a process so you can get the power of your feelings aligned with your Motivational Imperative.

The material in this book is powerful when a reader takes action. As a sidenote: some of the material is controversial. You may not agree with all of the material but you'll find some truly useful and life-changing processes. Take action. Success and fulfillment can be yours.

It is Imperative that you summon the motivation to get this book!

Ralph Waldo Emerson observed that most men lead lives of quiet desperation. It doesn't have to be that way.

"Follow your dreams," is the simple advice given by graduation speakers and self-help mavens. What we seldom stop to consider is: Is this dream worth pursuing? Can I find a better dream? Where do I find the passion to fuel my dream?

Dreams and schemes tend to remain in the realm of idle fantasies because most of us haven't stopped to think about these questions. We live our lives of quiet desperation and indulge these fantasies as occasional respite.

But turning your dream into a reality isn't a matter of luck or happenstance. The life you have right now is just that: a matter of luck and happenstance. We are taught that achieving a dream is hard work. It isn't. It is just thoughtful, purposeful work. What's hard is living with the unfulfilled dream.

This book first helps you to think about what you want, which is an important point left out of the graduation speeches. Decide what you want, and consider the steps to getting what you want. Once this important work is done, then get your subconscious on board so that your actions and thoughts pull toward what you want.

Once you have done this for yourself, you can help others in finding their MI's, or even install MI's for achievement in your children or students.

And then maybe we can put ol' Ralph to rest.

Let me start with what I liked, first there is a lot of good information in this book. It takes goal setting to a higher level. That is what Motivational Imperative(MI) is. There is a technique put forth that I know several secret societies use to help motivate it's members.That really makes this book excellent. Part I didn't care for is the book winds into a hypnotherapy session. Self-Hypnosis to lock in your MI part was fine but the book goes into how to install an MI into another person. If a person is a practising hypnotherapist I think the book is fine but for someone with no experience to use the power disclosed is dangerous. In general I would recommend you read the first 85% of the book and take it to heart. If you are NOT a hypnotherapist then stop reading after that point.

Quick & Dirty: A tortured friendship with too many bottled secrets.

Opening Sentence: On the first day of Noe, the raspberries are always ripe.

The Review:

Apple and Rain is simply written, with easy to understand language so I would say it is aimed at the younger adults, although to some extent it was the simplicity of the story that drew me in…

Apple craves the return of her mother who left her as a child with her Nana on Christmas in order to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress. As it was such a long time ago, Apple has fantasized a perfect version of her mother and blames her Nana for her mum leaving, so when her mother returns it’s a test between Apple’s dreams and reality.

“She was in plays. She was living her dream.”
“She was prancing around on stage wanting to be adored by people who didn’t know her whilst her own family spent years waiting for her to come home. Some dream.”
Nana has a point. Why wasn’t our love enough for Mum? It’s a question I don’t want to think about. “But you’re religious. You’re meant to forgive. The priest says so,” I tell her.

The reader sympathisers with Apple for various reasons, the first is because her mum is hopelessly inept at being a parent, with her lack of responsibility, crazy parties, drinking, smoking and generally unreliable personality. She’s also very manipulative, knowing how much Apple adores her, she feeds her a little attention now and again to soften her up just so she can get Apple to do her bidding. It’s disgusting, really. 14 year old Apple is treated like a maid/babysitter and is given the responsibility of taking care of her half-sister who clearly has some mental issues that their mother chooses to brush aside because of her selfish nature and her blas� attitude.

All those times I was thinking that Nana was wrong, wrong, wrong.
But she was right.
I was the wrong, wrong, wrong one to wish for things I didn’t have.
I should have been careful about my wishes.
And I should never have wished for a sister.

Rain, the younger sister, adds a bittersweet element to the story. It’s not her fault but she ends up being the cause of everyone’s problem. Apple tries to look after Rain as much as she can but Apple’s only a child too, she’s bound to get frustrated. Rain is clearly jealous of Apple as she’s their mother’s new favourite, and it’s just very sad to see her problem being ignored the way it is.

I loved Del, the boy next door. He’s witty, smart and has the dork-like charm that fits Apple perfectly. I’m so glad he was included in this book otherwise it would have been a leeetle too depressing for the younger readers, but he added the humour that’s always needed in books like these.

Del throws his hand up.
Mr. Gaydon looks our way. “You’re new,” he says.
“New to the school, yes. Not new to the world. Very much established in my own life,” Del says.

The inclusion of poetry and how it can be used to help an individual as a creative output for their pain was excellently added into this story. I enjoyed reading the poems, especially Apple’s own poetry, which gave a better insight into her bottled up feelings. I’ve always found that writing helps me feel better and I could tell that it was the same for Apple.

Overall, a noteworthy read but probably better received by the younger adults due to the simple writing. Some of the characters could have done with a lot more developing, such as Apple’s father, but the main characters were interesting enough so I almost forgot about the rest!

“So why are you out here? Shouldn’t you be working your way through a box of After Eights?” he says.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but my dad and stepmum just told me they’re having a baby, and my nan is trying to make me act like I’m pleased. So if you could leave me alone to be depressed, I’d appreciate it.”

APPLE AND RAIN is a lighthearted book full of harsh reality

Apple's mom left when she was too young to remember, and Apple has grown up living with her strict Nana. Her dad and his new wife (who strongly dislikes Apple) have just announced to her that they're having a baby. Plus, the popular girls at school take Apple’s best friend, Pilar, away. Apple feels like her life is at an all-time low, but it’s picked back up again when her mother appears out of nowhere and offers for Apple to come live with her. Both Nana and her dad are strongly against this, but Apple is tired of them and makes the decision to go live with her mom.

There are two problems with this scenario. First, Apple’s mom, who is trying to become an actress, doesn’t have a steady role and therefore can’t support a family easily. Second, Apple has a second sibling she never knew about: Rain. Rain is 10 years old and much too used to being an only child. She also a peculiar obsession with a doll named Jenny that she thinks is real. Things aren't as perfect as Apple thought they would be, and only an unlikely friend, a newfound talent for poetry and the act of taking responsibility can make things better.

APPLE AND RAIN is a lighthearted book full of harsh reality. It shows that you can’t wait around and expect life to be perfect without taking action yourself. I think this novel is very close to reality, making it all the more interesting to read and easy to connect to. It was a quick read --- the writing style was easy to understand and interesting. The plot and theme were perfectly crafted and I truly enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a realistic fiction novel that is easily relatable.

Experience The Hope and Heartbreak of "Apple And Rain"

Though this read is classified as YA, it reads very middle grade.

Apple, the book's young protagonist, is a highly sheltered 8th grader who has been raised by her grandmother for the last eleven years.

When her flighty and free-spirited, actress wannabe, mother suddenly re-enters her life, a new younger sister for Apple in tow. The ripple-free pond that has been Apple's life suddenly morphs into a storm-tossed sea of new experiences, disappointments, lessons, loves, losses, and possibilities.

For the most part, this read deals with the "be careful what you wish for" aspect of longing for an absentee parent. Apple has never gotten over seeing her mother leave on the fateful Christmas that changed her life. Years of no contact have only served to elevate the pedestal on which she has managed to place her wayward mother. While the steady hand of her Nana, serves as an all too strict reminder of what not having her mother in her life seems to be costing her.

When Apple's wish of her mother's return is suddenly granted; she finds herself on the receiving end of far more than she ever bargained for.

And...far more it seems, than her thirteen years have prepared her to deal with.

Just a few highlights:

A emotionally damaged younger sister, who has formed an unhealthy attachment to her doll, Jenny.

A mother who would rather throw parties, stay away from home for days, and drink alcohol, than take care of her children
Self same mother seems quite content to leave Apple to care for herself and her sister at any given time.

A father who has moved on to a new wife and family, and only chooses to look back on holidays and when there is a crisis too big to ignore.

Apple and Rain is a sad look at what happens when two little girls are forced, through no fault of their own, to grow up too soon. To learn lessons best left for later. To become their own heroes.

Parental neglect is a silent scourge wreaking havoc in the lives of millions of children everyday.

Adults find it so easy to excuse the inexcusable with justifications like, "Your mother just needs some time to get herself together."

Or...

"Your father just can't handle a family right now."

No one ever asks the children what they can handle. No justification is ever given for their abandonment issues, lack of trust, and fear.

Apple and Rain is a story that manages to do just that. With a quiet realism that gets to the heart of the matter in a voice and an emotional range tailor-made for today's young teen.
