Jane supports her younger sister by being a paid escort. Not the usual type of escort, one that involves companionship not sex. All that changes when her cell phone dies & she borrows one off a man attending the same party. She learns the man is the father of her date for the evening & they do not get along at all. Jane is fired the next day from a "complaint" from her date( on her birthday no less!) & she's approached by the man who got her fired with another "proposition". Jane agrees & they start an affair. I really hated when her lover started demeaning her for taking up his offer(like he's blameless). Unfortunately, Jane makes the mistake of falling in love with the jackass! It started out kind of icky with their "arrangement" but it got better! I look forward now to ALL Ms. Connelly's books!

About the Author
Roger Tory Peterson, one of the world's greatest naturalists, received every major award for ornithology, natural science, and conservation as well as numerous honorary degrees, medals, and citations, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. BALSAM FIR Resin, leaves Abies balsamea (L.) Mill Pine Family

Spire-shaped tree; to 60 ft. Flattish needles, to 11?4 in. long, in flattened sprays; stalkless. Needles rounded at base, each with 2 white lines beneath. Cones 1–4 in. long, erect; purple to green, scales mostly twice as long as broad. Bark smooth, with numerous resin pockets. Where found: Moist woods. Canada, south through New England and along mountains to Va. and W. Va.; west through n. Ohio to ne. Iowa, Mich. Uses: Canada Balsam, an oleoresin, is collected by cutting bark blisters or pockets in wood, July–Aug. Used as an antiseptic, in creams and ointments for piles, and as a root-canal sealer. Diuretic (may irritate mucous membranes). American Indians applied resin as an analgesic for burns, sores, bruises, and wounds. Leaf tea used for colds, coughs, and asthma. The oleoresin is pale yellow to greenish yellow; transparent and pleasantly scented. Its primary commercial application has been as a sealing agent for mounted microscope slides. Warning: Resin may cause dermatitis in some individuals.

Consider 'Newcomb's Wildflower Guide' instead

This is a solid introduction book to identification.

Pro's: succinct, easy to read descriptions and clear pictures. Good for identifying very common plants.
Cons: not comprehensive enough, arranged by flower color and nothing else, so you end up having to flip through entire sections for a familiar picture that may not be there. For those who are really looking to delve into botany or weed identification deeply, I would advise you to consider other options.

Before attending herbalism school, I didn't know which guide would be the most helpful to my area (Northern Virginia and coastal Maryland at the time, now South-Central Pennsylvania), so I bought this one because of all the positive reviews. Then, once classes started, my teachers strongly encouraged us to get the Newcomb's Wildflower Guide by Lawrence Newcomb for in-depth study. We solely used Newcomb's guide with plant identification, and while I found it tricky to learn how to use, once I understood how it was arranged, I found it much more comprehensive and informative than Foster's Eastern Central guide. To this day, when I bring both guides out in the field with me to identify, I rarely am able to distinguish one plant from the other using Foster's guide (most of the time it's just not there -- i.e., purple deadnettle, henbit, varying types of flowering blue-eyed grass), yet I'm able to i/d it every time using Newcomb's.

Something to ask yourself before you buy an identification guidebook is how in-depth you want the book to be and how seriously you take botany. If you really want to dive in, then you may want to consider a more comprehensive guidebook.

Good start

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that this book is just enough to get you in trouble. I like this book because of the (usually) clear and (mostly) accurate pictures, however, it is very obvious that the author is not an herbalist. He calls many plants "weeds," and is quick to scare one off by calling highly therapeutic plants "toxic." That said, this should be just one of many books on one's herbalist bookshelf. It is a good starting point, but please don't use this by itself.

small pics, not enough directions

Many of the pics are so small that it makes it hard to identify many of the plants/flowers. It would have been much better if they had made the book wider and longer so they could use larger pics. i understand that it's small in order to be handy to take into the field with you. But i would rather be able to see what i am looking at. i can handle a larger book. Many of the pics are on DIFFERNT page from the description which is very confusing!!! If you get the book, make sure you match up the pic with the right description! Then there are not enough details on HOW to use the plant. Ok, i know what it is, but how do i use it?????????? Those those are the 3 bad things about the book. However, i still recommend it because it gives over 300 plants including photos, which some do help. The index is excellent. And the back cover doubles as a ruler. The book is better for those that are not beginners.

Excellent!

This book is very appropriate for adults of intermediate levels. Half of it is for everyday life and the other half for business, so that makes it ideal to join both interests in one book.

It is easy to work with and very dinamic for the student. In the internet you can find suggestions for the teacher for each lesson.

The audio has dialogues by non native English speakers so the student can come across all kinds of accents.

It's an excellent material if you wanna practice British pronunciation. I was looking for book which could help me to improve the listening because I want to have a pronunciation similar to the Australian people have. It has a lot of very good excercises from the real life. I can recommend it. I bought all the series.
